Some Workbench Progress

I've been getting some work done on the new bench, fitting it in when I can. Little bits of time do present themselves and you can get a board faced or a tenon cut in that time.

Getting ready to cut a stretcher to length
Currently I've got the legs all trued up and tenons to position the top cut on them. In the photo above I'm getting ready to cut one of the short side stretchers to length. After that I'll plane off the other two sides and mark them out for their tenons.

I know that a lot of you are looking at that setup with the miter box with some skepticism on how long it's going to take to make that cut. It takes just over 2 minutes to get through that 3 1/2 inch piece. I've been squaring up all the lumber for the bench this way and it hasn't been too bad. The Millers Falls box is easy to use and the saw is staying sharp. I sharpened it when I first got the box and its been going strong since. I've cut 12 cuts in this oak so far with 4 more to do for the long stretchers.

Half way there
Yesterday I planed the remaining faces of the upper short stretchers and hope to get faces planed of the lower ones this evening and get the tenons marked out. It's nice to be making some progress on the bench even if it is just a little at a time.
